About Phil
Philip Pratt is the organist at Chapel on the Hill in Seminole, Florida and at First Congregational Church in Charlevoix Michigan. He formerly served fourteen years as organist at Heartside Ministry, an outreach ministry to the poor and homeless population of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Each December during that period, he gave an organ concert commemorating the anniversary of the opening of the Heartside Chapel.
In addition to the Heartside Anniversary concerts, Phil has given several other concerts over the last twenty-five years, including dedication concerts on several newly-installed organs. He was a frequent performer in the Cyril E. Barker Memorial Music Festival in Grand Rapids. Being part of this festival was especially meaningful to him, since "Cy" Barker was one of his organ teachers and also a good friend.
Phil received his Ph.D. in mathematics from Michigan State University in 1971. He was on the faculty of Grand Valley State University for 33 years, teaching both Mathematics and Computer Science. He served for eight years as department chair. He has published over 70 computer science textbooks.
Two of Phil's most recent CD's are currently available: Organ Favorites by Request and Christmas Organ Music by Request. They are $15 and may be ordered by clicking the buttons at the above right.
